IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!
Dexter Disc Golf Course is being impacted by the heavy use it is
receiving. The Corps of Engineers and Oregon State Parks are going to be
working with EDGC volunteers to come up with an environmental management
and mitigation plan for the course. This will include all kinds of
possibilities, from increased signage and better trails to closing part of
the course at certain times of the year. If you have any interest in
helping keep Dexter a beautiful environment to play Disc Golf; contact
Roller Bob (541)485-1886, Bruce Sisson (541)485-3275, or Paul
Mize(541)342-3087. Also check our EDGC news information webpage and the
bulletin board at Dexter for updates and work parties.
Installed in 2001,
Dexter Disc Golf Course has become one of the toughest disc golf courses
in Oregon. Shooting Par is an excellent accomplishment! Situated next to
Dexter Lake Reservoir along the Willamette it features great beauty to go
with challenging golf. The course has open and tight fairways and makes
good use of the elevation changes along a ridge running through the middle
of the links. Dexter Disc Golf
Course has 18 Mach 3
baskets/cement tee pads, and two pin locations for every hole but #2.
Check the sign at hole one for any new course designs. You'll find tee one
between the two parking lots next to the information box. The only O.B. (Out-of Bounds) rule is if you cross the
edge of a road, regardless of whether you land on grass on the other side,
it is O.B. Mark you lie inbounds up to 1 meter from the inside road/OB
line. Take your penalty stroke and play on. This should only really come into play on hole 11. The only other
hazard is to watch for traffic because the course has walk-outs that cross
the park road in several places. This course is in the ground as a direct
result of close to 1,000 hours of volunteer work on the part of Eugene
Club members! Nice job guys!
Also great thanks to Ranger Paul Tollenaar of the Oregon State
Parks who worked very hard to help us put this course in!
Visit this state park's web site.
Respect the
natural features of the course by not littering! Pack out your bottles.
There are Garbage cans located near the parking lot and throughout the
course. Dexter park and disc golf course are free to the public, but there
is a donation box near hole One's tee. Any donations go to maintenance and
improvements of Dexter Disc Golf Course. If you're looking for people to
play
with
try Joining the Eugene Disc Golf Club. Check our club membership page on
this site.
Watch for POISON OAK! It'll be around for a while. There are
plans to spray
and clear as much POAK as possible. A necessary part of routine park maintenance.
But
beware because we can't get it all and there are always more leaves of
three springing up!
Alcohol is permitted in the park, but drunkenness is not. Please use
common sense. Please don't litter the course with cigarette butts or beer
bottles and cans. In the summer when it's dry, smoking may be banned
altogether in the wooded areas of the park. Dogs must be on a leash at
all times. And please clean up your dog's mess! We will thank you for that, us
Rollers will really thank you for that!
Camping is available across the street from the park at Dexter Shores
(541-937-3711). RV hookups, showers, bathrooms & tent spaces. This is a
private campground and not associated with Oregon State Parks. Mention
you're a disc golfer if you stay there!
Directions:
Take I-5 south or north to just south of
Eugene and the exit for Hwy 58/Oakridge-Klamath Falls, (Exit 188A). Head
east for 16 miles on Hwy 58 to Dexter State Park. The park entrance is
before you get to the lake and on the left. Once in the park veer to the
right and park in the first two parking lots. The tee for hole one is
marked by a white rock buried level with the ground between the second and
third parking lots and faces the lake towards the dam. There will be a
sign marking hole one soon. The basket sits under a big oak. You should
be able to find the next tee and hole and follow the paths through the
woods.
